Job Description
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Support the WFP Director in managing relations and enhancing the partnership between WFP and the African Union Commissions and its institutions.
- Develop engagement plans and liaise with other continental partners to gather technical and financial support for Member States, such as the African Development Bank and the Islamic Development Bank in tandem with the Advocacy and Resource Mobilization Expert.
- In the context of the UN System, support the WFP Director with the development of partnerships and joint events with the African Union Commissions to advocate for school meals and advance WFP priorities and objectives. Coordinate with partners and UN agencies at continental level to provide streamlined technical support, including the Home-Grown School Feeding Cluster.
- Support the African Union’s engagement with the School Meals Coalition, identifying opportunities to position the issue in continental fora and advocating with its Member States for national commitments.
- Conduct stakeholder mappings, analysis and briefs for the Director.
- Contribute to the preparations of strategic agreements, implementation of work plans and periodic reports.
- Facilitate corporate dialogue between the Director with partners through networking and information sharing, highlighting strategic issues to the Director and propose the best course of action to nurture trust and partnership growth with the African Union.
- Any other duties as required.
Education:
- Advanced University degree in Political Science, International Development, Development Economics, International Relations, Law, Marketing, Communications or other relevant field, or First University degree with additional years of related work experience and/or trainings/courses
Experience:
- Minimum of five years of relevant professional work experience in partnership and/or high-level advocacy.
- Experience working with international organizations, with knowledge on the AU and past work on AU advocacy being an added advantage.
- Strong knowledge and understanding of the African Union structure, processes, and frameworks.
- Exceptional written and oral communication skills, with strong demonstrated ability to convey complex ideas in a clear, direct, and lively style.
- Ability to work independently, operate under pressure, manage multiple tasks, deliver time sensitive, high-quality work, and meet team objectives
- Highly creative and innovative thinker.
- Has motivated team spirit and contributed to a gender-balanced, inclusive, and sound working environment.
Languages:
- Excellent command and highly proficient in spoken and written English (C1 Effective Operational Proficiency)
