Job Description
Within delegated authority, the Statistics Assistant will be responsible for research, compilation, processing, and analysis of data related to the calculation of post adjustment indices, and assisting in methodological research connected with cost-of-living measurements. In particular, the Statistics Assistant will be responsible for the following duties:
Research, Compilation, Entry and Processing of datasets:
The incumbent creates and processes datasets compiled from several types of survey questionnaires and data collection forms for preparation of statistical tables and graphic displays.
Checks consistency of data series; conducts tests for comparability and validity of data;
Converts data sets into variety of forms, such as index series, ratios, estimates and projections, using a wide variety of statistical processes;
Studies and examines skewed results, investigates possible causes of such results and deviations, and prepare reports explaining findings;
Creates and updates databases, export relevant data to spreadsheets, modifies control process for computer programs for data analyses;
Maintains, modifies, and interrogates statistical databases on-line and in-batch processing modes.
Preparation of materials for Reports:
Compiles tables, charts, graphic displays from processed data for cost-of-living survey reports and analyses.
Defines processes to achieve specific outputs, modifies control processes according to specifications for data analyses, tests and revises programs under the supervision of a professional programmer and produces required computer outputs.
Assists in designing and modifying questionnaires and other data-collection forms.
Assists in designing and modifying presentations to ICSC, and its subsidiary body, the Advisory Committee on Post Adjustment Questions (ACPAQ).
High school diploma or equivalent. Studies/courses at the tertiary level in statistics are desirable.
Work Experience:
A minimum of 7 years of experience in the field of statistics, economics or related area is required.
Experience in the field of cost-of-living measurement is desirable.
Languages:
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
For the advertised post, fluency in oral and written English is required.
Knowledge of French and/or Spanish is an advantage.
